Step one, navigate to twitter.com/settings/deactivate and follow the appropriate instructions.

Step two, add "127.0.0.1 twitter.com" to your hosts file to prevent accidental access.

Windows: open notepad as administrator, open file, navigate to C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc then type in hosts in the file name box and open it.
MacOS: Open Terminal, then type in (without quotes) "sudo nano /etc/hosts" then enter password. Once you have added the line press Control + X then Y then Enter to save it.
Linux: If you are using linux then you probably already know how to do this

Step 3 (Optional), Join a fediverse instance or Bluesky instead.
